Assessment and treatment of those with a lower limb problem does not always involve surgery. Overuse knee pain, patellar tendonitis, ankle joint and ligament problems, medial tibial syndrome (shin-splints), chronic compartment syndrome, stress fractures, Achilles tendonitis, foot and toe pain problems often respond to conservative measures. Clinical examination, treadmill assessment, physiotherapy, general advice and footwear modifications can solve a lot of problems. Sometimes a judicious anti-inflammatory injection into or around a joint can work wonders.

Did you know that the lifespan of a pair of running shoes, worn and used regularly, is about six months? After that time, the EVA foam compacts and the shock reducing cushioning previously provided is much reduced. As one pair wears out, you should be wearing another pair in. My rule of thumb is to double your age, subtract 10 and that is what you should pay for a pair of running shoes. Brands such as Asics Gel, Nike Air and Saucony (as well as many others) are good running shoes. Specialist advice, insoles and custom foot wear can be made for you.
